MEET THE FOUNDER
Val Sue
Founder & Creative Director
Val Sue is the Founder & Creative Director of The After Society, a recovery-first wellness community creating thoughtful experiences around intentional movement, active recovery, nourishment, and meaningful connection.
Originally from Burma, Val has lived across Asia, Europe, and the United States, with formative chapters in Bangkok and Florence, Italy. Experiencing different cultures, cities, and ways of life has shaped her perspective on design, hospitality, community, and how people experience a place and one another.
Her professional path through law, marketing, interior design, and event planning has further shaped how she approaches experience design — with structure, creativity, and a deep awareness of how people feel within a space. Through The After Society, Val brings these influences together to create gatherings that are not simply attended, but remembered.
The idea for The After Society began with a realization from her own wellness journey: our culture celebrates effort, intensity, and performance, yet gives far less attention to the recovery that makes sustainable progress possible. Val founded The After Society to help change that.
From its beginnings in Washington, DC, she is building a new kind of wellness community — one where recovery is social, thoughtful, and elevated; where movement creates connection; and where slowing down does not mean stepping away from ambition.
As Founder & Creative Director, Val leads the vision, creative direction, experience design, and partnerships behind The After Society. Her long-term ambition is to grow it from intimate gatherings into a recognized platform for recovery-centered experiences, corporate wellness, retreats, and community.
“I want people to leave every experience feeling restored, connected, and ready for what comes next.”
